Jejunum and Ileum

The jejunum begins at the duodenojejunal junction and comprises two fifths of the remaining small intestine. The beginning of the ileum is not clearly demarcated; it consists of the distal three fifths of the small bowel.

The jejunoileum is suspended from the posterior body wall by the mesentery proper. Although the root of the mesentery is only 9 inches long, the mobUe part of the small intestine is approximately 22 feet in length.
