Infertility, defined by the inability of a couple to conceive after 1 year of unprotected intercourse, is relatively common.
• 20-25% of couples affected
• Male factor problems responsible in 50% of cases
• Semen analysis is the cornerstone of evaluation of the male partner
Semen analysis is highly indicative of the functional status of the testis by assessing the quantity, quality, and capabilities of semen in that particular specimen. Most men comply readily with semen analysis, but a small proportion of patients find masturbatory sample production distasteful and embarrassing and sensitivity is required when broaching the subject.
